Welcome everyone to my very first post. I like to start off by thanking you for stopping by and hope you enjoy what I have to share with you in today’s post and in future posts to come. For my very first post I figure there is no better way to kick start this blog than by sharing with you a book haul. Who doesn’t love a book haul?
I recently did some browsing on book outlet just thinking I would peruse their selection and not really planning on buy anything. My perusing quickly led to buying and before you know it I have 11 books in my cart. That’s the thing with shopping online you never realize how many books you’ve added to your cart until you check out.
Eight of the books I bought are young adult and the other three are adult historical fiction.
I don’t normally read that much contemporary books but I have heard so many good things about rainbow’s books. And when I had seen eleanor & park on book outlet for cheap and a signed copy. I said yes please!
Since you have been gone is another contemporary that some book tuber’s have been raving about and I like the of premise of it. I feel like I can really relate to this book. As I also need to be yanked out of my shell. I look forward to reading this, this summer
I picked this book up because the cover had me captivated. I wanted to get to know about this girls story. Why is she standing in the rain with her head down and arms crossed looking like life has beaten her down. This book is about a girl named angel who meets a boy who introduces her to drugs and gets her to start working the streets. When Call her boyfriend brings home a very young girl decides that she needs to get her and herself out of this life. Even though this book deals with some heavy subject matter it will be a fast read as it is written in verse
This book also deals with heavy subject matter as you may be able to tell from the cover. I am very intrigued with books that deal with drug addictions and effects of drugs. Just my way of trying to understand something I don’t. From what I get from the synopsis from the back it follows a boy named Tom who wants to escape his small town but as meth gets introduced to his town the lives of friends and teachers around him become ruined. I am a little iffy about this one. So we’ll see how it turns out
Everyone has been talking about this series on booktube so I want to know what all the fuss is about. And I do love a story involving witches. The magical elements that naturally comes with stories about witches. Half Bad is set in modern day England where there are two factions of witches that are at war. I can only assume that one is bad and other good. The main character Nathan is the son to a violent witch named Marcus. And Nathan has been held captive and tortured. For his survival he must escape to find his father who then will receive 3 gifts that will allow him to have his own magical powers. From the sounds of it I am going to love this book. I probably won’t pick it up until I have all the complete trilogy.
I haven’t read the synopsis of this book because this is the final book in the Smoke & Bone trilogy and I don’t want to be spoiled. I read the first book Daughter of Smoke & Bone and enjoyed it. It is an urban fantasy novel that involves angels and demons. Now just need to get the second book in the series Days of Blood & Starlight.
As previously mentioned I love historical fiction and I especially love reading anything about the Tudors. So when I was scrolling through the site and this book cover caught my eye. It is such a beautiful cover and very intriguing, as one of the queen’s maids is holding a dagger. And when I read the synopsis I was sold. So into the cart it went.
This book is the first in the maids of honor series. Not sure how many books there will be but I am going to guess five. This story follows an orphan named meg who gets placed in the queen Elizabeth’s court as a spy when she gets caught stealing. She ends up joining a secret society of protectors called the Maids of Honor made up of four other girls. Look forward to getting to this one soon.
I was very excited to see Emerald Green in a hard back edition. So when I saw it on book outlet I had to get it. I previously had only Ruby Red and I quite enjoyed it. I do love historical fiction and I enjoyed the elements of time travel. Now all I have to do is find Sapphire Blue in hard back and I will have the complete series in the same editions. And hopefully then I can continue on with the series.
Philippa is one of my favorite authors and wish to own all her books one day. On the book outlet I was had to search to see if they had any of her books in stock and they had the kings curse and virgin earth so I grabbed those up quickly and am now excited to have them in my collection.
The king’s Curse is the final book in the cousin’s war series. I have read them all except for the White Princess which I will hopefully be able to get my hands on a copy soon because I just love this series and want to continue it. I know I don’t have to read them in order but I would like to. The king’s court is about Margaret Pole who becomes a maid in waiting to Queen Katherine of Aragon and her perspective of king Henry VIII court. I loved her previous books on King Henry VII court so can’t wait to be reintroduced to those characters from another POV.
Virgin Earth is the second book in the tradescant duology. This is a standalone book but I think I will probably end up reading Earthly Joys first anyways. So this book will end up being unread on my shelf for some time before I pick it up. Virgin earth is set in the time of King Charles I and follows main character John Tradescant who is a gardener to Charles but as England is in civil war he escapes to the royal colony in Virginia. Upon moving he drawn to the way of life of the native Americans and falls in love with a Powhatan girl. Sounds similar to Pocahontas story. I’m sure it will be great like all her books.
So very happy to have this beautiful book in my possession. I have heard good things about it and it was the winner of the goodreads choice awards for 2015. And I love a book set during WWII and stories about sisters. Vianne and Isabelle are sisters who live in German-occupied France. Vianne husband goes off to war and then her house is taken over by a German Captain. Isabelle meets a guy and joins the Resistance. Can’t wait to read each sister’s story.
That everything for this book haul I hope you enjoyed and please let me know what you liked or didn’t like about this post so that I may improve future posts. Let me know in the comments your thoughts on the books mentioned. Until next time take care and happy reading!
